Microdermabrasion is an exfoliant treatment that works to lessen signs of aging and give you smoother and brighter skin. The Microdermabrasion method
In the 80s, microdermabrasion was first designed and created as a clinical treatment to help burn patients with their large, raised scars by smoothing their skin. As doctors began to observe the dramatic improvements of the skin that had been treated and resurfaced with microdermabrasion, they began to apply the method for use in cosmetic procedures.
By the late 90s, after many clinical trials and reports to confirm that it was indeed safe and effective, microdermabrasion was re-introduced to the United States as an official spa treatment.
A handheld microdermabrasion device with aluminum oxide crystals is used to lightly sand and exfoliate the top layer of the skin away. A specially designed mini vacuum collects the crystals and dead skin cells throughout the process, leaving a clean and healthy brand new layer of skin. This gives an open and clear channel to promote the production of new skin cells to grow which will provide a brighter, more youthful and healthy appearance to the skin.
Another advantage to a mechanical exfoliation treatment is that it supports collagen and elastin growth which not only gives immediate results of skin improvement, but can also boost long- lasting resilience.

Microdermabrasion treatment
Very small, fine crystals are applied to the skin using a specialized handheld wand that works to remove the outer layers of skin through exfoliation of the skin surface. A vacuum simultaneously discards the dead skin debris that is removed. By doing this, a brand new and fresh healthy layer of skin is revealed, providing a more youthful appearance to the face.
The treatment takes generally 30 minutes for the facial skin with an additional 20 minutes if treating the neck as well. Crystal microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive procedure and there is no pain.
When will I see results?
Results can be seen immediately following the treatment. You will notice clear pores and a brighter, smoother, complexion. Treating specific skin concerns such as mild acne scarring or hyperpigmentation will require multiple treatments for optimal improvement to show.
For most patients, their skin will recover in enough time for another microdermabrasion session within a week or two. Treatments can be done weekly, biweekly or monthly to obtain desired results.
Recovery and downtime
There is no downtime associated with crystal microdermabrasion; however, you may experience some redness and mild sensitivity during the days following your treatment. It is generally advised to refrain from excessive sun exposure after your microdermabrasion procedure. This is a safe procedure for most skin types that is typically gentle.
You will be able to continue your normal daily activities immediately after your treatment.
